Islands to visit in Poland. If you imagine a holiday on islands, you don’t need to journey to exotic destinations. Poland has such places with plenty to offer visitors. Here, we highlight Polish islands that are worth exploring.
Wolin Island
The largest and most renowned island in Poland is Wolin, situated in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Bordered by the Szczecin Lagoon, the Dziwna Strait, and the Świna Strait, it is separated from the mainland by these water bodies. The island hosts two urban centers – Świnoujście and Międzyzdroje – both popular tourist destinations. Additionally, a portion of Wolin is protected by the Wolin National Park, featuring the most stunning segment of the Polish cliff coast, beech forests, and the remarkable Świna delta. Wolin is well-known for its numerous beaches and cycling routes that traverse the island’s most captivating areas. Another notable attraction is the Slavic and Viking Center, functioning as an open-air museum showcasing wooden huts with ramparts, a tower, and a grand gate, all aimed at preserving Wolin’s historical heritage.
Island of Usedom
Another island ideal for a seaside vacation is Usedom, with parts in both Poland and Germany. The island is separated from the mainland by the Piana Strait, Świna Strait, and the Piast Canal. In the Polish section of Usedom, visitors can enjoy beautiful bathing areas and sandy beaches. On the German side, there are numerous unique spa towns, including Bansin and Ahlbeck. For those who enjoy active recreation, the cross-border walking and cycling route is a fantastic attraction.
Karsibór Island
Karsibór Island emerged from the excavation of the southeastern part of Uznam. It consists mostly of pastures and reed plantations, offering a serene escape from urban life. The island is home to the Karsiborska Kępa reserve, where wild birds thrive. As a result, Karsibór Island stands as a sanctuary of nature and tranquility.
