Ryanair has postponed its full transition to digital boarding passes, giving passengers more time to adapt to the paperless system. The airline initially planned to introduce this change in May 2025 but has now delayed the rollout to the beginning of the winter season, on November 3, 2025.
No more paper boarding passes from November

Ryanair’s decision is part of its strategy to simplify travel procedures, reduce costs, and support environmental efforts. From November, passengers will no longer be able to use traditional paper boarding passes. Instead, they will need to check in and access their boarding passes through the official myRyanair app.
Currently, around 80% of Ryanair passengers already use digital boarding passes. The airline estimates that the full transition will save over 300 tons of paper per year.
The app becomes mandatory
With this change, the myRyanair app will become essential for all travelers. In addition to digital boarding passes, the app offers flight updates, terminal and gate information, and booking management tools. Ryanair also plans to introduce a new feature called “Order to Seat”, allowing passengers to order food and drinks directly to their seat via the app.
Ryanair passengers should also be aware of another recent change: under the airline’s new policy, your paid seat assignment may still be changed. Find out more about Ryanair’s new seat rules.
Part of a global trend
Ryanair’s move follows a global trend in the aviation industry toward paperless and digital services. Although some travelers may prefer traditional paper documents, most passengers are already accustomed to digital check-in procedures. The airline has assured that the transition will be smooth and that clear information will be provided to all passengers.
